How to Choose Between Business Simulation Companies

Five questions that separate a partner from a platform

Every provider’s demo looks impressive. The differences that decide whether your teams change how they decide show up in five questions most buyers never ask. Here they are — with what each answer costs you.

The five questions to ask every provider

Ask all five. The answers sort the market fast.

1

Custom-built, or configured off the shelf?

Most business simulation companies license a fixed scenario and change the logo. Your leaders run a generic company in a generic market, and the lessons stay generic. A custom build starts from your market, your competitors, and your numbers — so the judgment your teams build is the judgment your business needs. Ask to see a simulation the company built from scratch for a client, not a demo of their platform.

2

Who drives — the software or the participants?

Software-first simulations reduce your leaders to menu choices. Participant-driven simulations hand them the strategy, the decisions, and the consequences — because people own what they build, and ownership is what survives contact with Monday. Ask what participants actually control.

3

Is there a facilitator who translates it into business impact?

A simulation without a debrief is a great day, not a capability. The facilitator is who welds what just happened to the priority on your executives' desks. Ask who facilitates, how the debrief works, and what participants leave committed to doing differently.

4

Does it run live, virtual, and dispersed?

The first cohort deserves a live experience. Every cohort after deserves access without waiting for a calendar. Ask whether the same simulation can run live first, then supported virtually, then dispersed across the whole team — or whether you are buying one event.

5

Can they show a measured business result?

Not satisfaction scores — business numbers. Ask for a named client and a measured outcome. If the answer is a smile sheet, the simulation was entertainment.

The honest comparison nobody else will publish

Every “top business simulation companies” list you’ll find is written by a vendor ranking itself first. Here’s ours — with real strengths for every competitor, and the honest reason you might not need us.

Worth knowing: platforms like Capsim and Cesim are built on the same basis as our simulations. The difference is theirs are generic. The most immersive thing you can give a team is practice running your own company at zero risk.

ProviderTypeStrengthsWorth considering
CapsimPlatformProven multi-round strategy sims, huge academic footprint, strong analyticsGeneric invented company; facilitation and your actual business aren't the product
CesimPlatformBroad off-the-shelf catalog, 1,000+ universities, easy virtual rolloutSame generic-company premise; configuration, not custom design
BTSEnterprise customDeep Fortune-500 custom builds, strategy-alignment pedigreeEnterprise pricing and timelines, built for very large engagements
AdvantexePlatform + config100+ cloud acumen sims, strong business-acumen focus“Custom” typically means configuring a pre-built model
ForioPlatform (edu)Harvard/MIT/Wharton-built sims, research-grade modelsDesigned for coursework; corporate facilitation is not the core
Learn2Custom + facilitatedBuilt on your market, your numbers, your competitors; improv actors and live facilitation; live then virtual then dispersed; published pricingNot self-serve software — if you only want a licensed platform with no live experience, a platform vendor fits better

Where Learn2 stands on all five

Custom-built from your business, participant-driven by design, facilitated by masters who translate the experience into business impact, delivered live then virtually then dispersed — and measured in business numbers, like the Baxter team that rehearsed a competitive bid with Bid to Win™ and won above the expected allocation on a real Canadian Blood Services award.

Common Questions

What do business simulation companies actually sell?+

Three different things that look alike: off-the-shelf simulation software you license, generic simulation events a vendor runs, and custom-built simulations designed from your business. They price differently, and they produce different results — software builds familiarity, generic events build energy, custom builds judgment your leaders use on real decisions.

What does a custom business simulation cost?+

Almost nobody in this category publishes pricing, so here is ours: a custom simulation — design, build, and the first live cohort — runs $10,000 to $25,000 depending on scope. Dispersed virtual access afterward is $99 per person per year. A platform license can look cheaper per seat and cost more per behavior changed when the generic scenario doesn't transfer.

How is Learn2 different from other business simulation companies?+

Twenty-five years of custom builds, run with teams at J.P. Morgan Chase, TD, Deloitte, GSK, AstraZeneca, and Baxter. Every simulation is participant-driven — real choice, real control, real consequences — and every one ends with a facilitator translating the experience into business impact. We design the conditions; your people drive.

Should we choose a simulation platform or a simulation partner?+

Choose by the problem. If your teams need repeatable practice on defined tasks, a platform can be enough. If you need leaders and teams to build judgment on your actual strategy, market, and decisions, you need a partner who designs the simulation around your business — and stays for the debrief.
