Lead the Endurance: The Shackleton-Based Leadership Experience That Surfaces What 360 Reviews Miss (F8)
Lead the Endurance is the Learn2 Shackleton-expedition immersive leadership program where leaders make decisions under simulated Antarctic pressure and the gaps between their self-perception and their actual behavior surface in 90 minutes. Most 360 reviews never catch these gaps. A leader can score high on “inspirational” in a review and freeze the moment her team needs her to commit to a decision with incomplete data. Lead the Endurance creates exactly that situation — five times in one day — so the gap becomes observable, correctable, and practiceable.
The program is built on the Ernest Shackleton 1914-1917 Endurance expedition, which is studied a century later because Shackleton held a team together through two years of continuous catastrophic failure and brought every one of his 27 men home alive. The program uses that historical stakes structure to put leadership teams in compressed simulated versions of the same decisions — ice closing in, supplies running short, a crew member questioning the plan, a navigational call that cannot be postponed. The leader decides. The team responds. The debrief surfaces the real pattern.
Below is what Lead the Endurance installs that classroom leadership programs cannot, the named-client outcomes including Canadian Olympic Committee preparation for Vancouver 2010, and the design principles that make this a leadership development program rather than a team-building exercise.
