Before hiring an outside team building or leadership development facilitator, most buyers have a lot of questions about their future project, like…
- What’s included?
- What’s this going to cost me?
- How long will it take?
- How much of my time? My leaders time will you need?
- Will I get a return on my investment?
- What can I expect in terms of process and deliverables?
When working with a company you don’t know (and learning in a way you have never done before), it’s completely natural to have questions, doubts, and even concerns. You want to understand everything about the team building program before signing an agreement or paying a deposit.
If you’re reading this, I’m going to assume that you, too, have similar questions and may be wondering what it will be like if we work together on your next leadership development project.
To help shed some light, I’ve provided answers to these commonly asked questions about our team building facilitation. If you have other questions beyond what is covered, feel free to reach out to me directly: michelle@Learn2.com.
What’s included in a participant-driven learning project?
While every participant-driven leadership development project is different, the process is always the same. It’s a process we’ve refined over the last 30+ years of being a thought leader in the industry – we rely on the participant-driven process because it works.
1. Onboarding
During this phase of the project, we’ll ask you for relevant information about your organization including
- Mission
- Vision
- Values
- Competencies
- Brand standards
- Expected results (goals) of training
- Any recent assessment data if any exists, and more.
We’ll have you fill out our discovery questionnaire which gives us all the information we need to understand your target community, products, competitors, and more.
Onboarding Process & Deliverables:
Timing: ~1-2 days
- Sign Master Services Agreement
- Deposit paid
- Knowledge sharing
- Document sharing
- Discovery Questionnaire
2. Client Kickoff
Even if you have experienced the leadership development or team building program before, we’ll schedule a 15-minute meeting to review what’s different. During this meeting, we’ll discuss what’s working, what’s missing, and what needs to change within your organization, so we have a crystal-clear picture of what you’d like to see. We do the following:
- Introduce roles and delivery team
- Set timelines and schedule touchpoints
- Identify who the participants interact with internally, their work situation, their value chain
- Complete the participant roster and align on pre-experience communications and any optional assessments
- Define business goals
- Review learning outcomes, prior learning, benefits desired, application, support available, etc.
Client Kickoff Process & Deliverables:
Timing: ~1-2 weeks
- Client Kickoff to schedule
- Strategy workshop
- Participant roster and research
3. Participant research
To get a clear picture of who your participants are, what they care about, and how they communicate, we prefer to spend some time getting to know them, which may include:
- Prior learning (we want to build upon your previous investments)
- Participant interviews
- Participant assessments or survey results
- And more!
4. Your Participant-Driven Experience
We facilitate your participant-driven team building or leadership development experience. Our facilitator(s), orchestrator(s) and coach(es) get a sense of your leaders and teams and where there are any opportunities. Based on those findings, we’ll come up with recommendations which we’ll incorporate into the Insights Report (see below).
Participant Dirven-Experience Process & Deliverables:
Timing: ~1-2 weeks
- Follow configuration or customization choices
- Frame participants inside business goals
- Capture participant-driven feedback and participant recommendations
5. Insights Report
Using insights from the participant data based on our strategy workshop, we’ll create an Insights Report which will outline the following:
- What we learned during the participant-driven experience
- Participant feedback pre- and post-experience on behavior change, recommendations and desired support
- Any benchmark data (Save the Titanic and Orchestrate Impact)
- What % of participants created impact projects and estimated value of golden egg
- What support might be useful to ensure application
- Who we’d target for what support
- How to effectively communicate with participants and their peers throughout their value chain
To give you a better sense of what the insight report looks like, check out the table below which is a short snippet from an in-depth Insights Report:
Insights Report Process & Deliverables
Timing: ~1-2 days after delivery wraps
- Participant feedback
- Ideas for optimization and support
- Discussion of next steps
6. Results Report
Using the insights and information from all preceding steps, as well as the information gleaned during our strategy workshop, we’ll create the Results Report. This includes:
- Impact Projects categorized by business goals
- Golden egg – the estimated value and timeline of Impact Projects
- Actual impact and timeline of Impact Projects
- Attribution by participant or said differently, to what extent the participant would have done their project anyway
- Recommended recognition of achievements (we recommend skip level leaders learn about actual impact to increase awareness of your talent pipeline)
- Any additional recommendations for future programs or insights (if needed)
To help you get a sense of what that looks like, below is a very simple Impact Report we created while working with an enterprise that’s focused on leader development:
Results Report Process & Deliverables:
Timing: ~1-2 months after projects wrap
- Actual impact by business goals
- Attribution of impact
- Recommendation next steps
While it may seem like a lot of steps, the process tends to move quickly because it’s a systemized approach. We’ve repeated this participant-driven process for years, allowing us to collect, analyze and translate a lot of information efficiently and effectively.
What’s my investment for these participant-driven development programs?
Because every development project is configured to your specific needs, there is not a standard “set” investment, and most projects range from $5,000 – 25,000, with most projects falling somewhere in the middle.
Investment depends on a lot of factors, but it’s typically influenced by your level of support for application, how many different cohorts, and how much customization is necessary to help you achieve your business goals.

How long will it take?
On average, most leadership development projects take 2-8 weeks, and this depends on the type of project and scope of your project, as well as our available schedule at that moment.
For example, if your project requires a lot of customization and content creation, it’s likely your project may take 2+ months. On the other hand, if your project consists of a single engagement and a small target community, your project may only take 1-4 weeks.
Regardless of how long your leadership development or team building project will take, we always strive to keep my clients in the loop through check-ins and progress updates, ensuring we’re both on the same page in terms of timing and expectations.
Will I get a return on my investment?
We can guarantee specific numbers or dollar amounts. We can also guarantee a solution that is driven by data and laser-focused on getting you results that align with your business goals.
We can also guarantee that you’ll learn a lot, about your business, your people, and how they learn best, which is often just as (if not more) valuable than the economic impact of the projects themselves.
Finally, unlike other team building instructors, we do not rely on guesswork, gut feelings, or “making it up” — we use a very specific process that has been proven to work for many, many clients before you, many of whom you can “hear from” below…
