Position Description

Do you want to become a Search Engine Optimization Intern who blends the technical skills of search engine functionality, website design, and marketing conversions with creative psychological skills of understanding our target markets?

Do you want to increase the volume of inbound organic traffic from search engines and implement on-page and off-page techniques, including link-building, being part of a team to develop and execute the social media strategy, viral marketing, site speed optimization, and content strategy?

The highly-skilled Search Engine Optimization Intern is an integral part of the marketing chain working with others in the Marketing team to improve conversions and engagement. You have a dual-minded approach: You’re highly creative and are process-driven, think technically, and rely on data to make decisions.

The Search Engine Optimization Intern reports to the Manager of Making it Happen, and works closely with the VP Program Development and other key team members, including the CEO. The ability to work collaboratively and creatively within a distributed organization is vital to this position, since team members are in different locations.

The Position

Position Responsibilities

  • Increase search engine rank for websites
  • Select appropriate keywords to target and optimize pages
  • Website and conversion optimization including writing keyword centric content, as well as optimizing page titles, header tags, alt tags, and meta tags
  • Enhance the overall website user experience
  • Analyze the effectiveness of our content production, search engine optimization, social media and conversion funnel to adjust the strategy accordingly
  • Conduct research to gain insight into our target markets and turn them into long-tail search strategies.
  • Work in collaboration with the Marketing team.

Experience

Relevant experience in SEO for business is helpful; 1 – 2 years minimum. If you have to learn everything, then be prepared to invest your own time learning after hours and weekends.

Education

University Degree or College Diploma is preferred – although proven experience is more important. Self-taught is also preferred, if you learned how to do it to get it done for someone – show us.

Stuff we want you to have ideally

  • Experience with WordPress, Google’s Keyword Tool
  • Background or interest in learning & development
  • Experience with business to business sales
  • A functional understanding of HTML and CSS
  • Proven success in link building and viral strategies
  • The ability to deploy an effective local and long-tail search strategy
  • A deep understanding of mobile strategy and how it relates to SEO
  • A solid grasp of how blogging, press releases, social media, and related strategies go hand-in-hand with SEO
  • Experience in building inbound organic search traffic

  • A background in interpreting reports showing web analytics data and site evaluations

Location Info

The SEO Intern will work Etobicoke at the Learn2 office at 2970 Lake Shore Blvd. West. We are located on the Lakeshore Street car line and a bus ride from Islington TTC station.

Travel Requirements

Occasional travel is required for this job. Travel expenses are paid for or reimbursed by Learn2.

Hours

This is a full-time (37.5 hrs/week), Internship position for a period of four months beginning April 2017. If you become indispensable then who knows how long you’ll work here.
